Emergency Medical First Responder

District No. 2 is the first fire department in the Township to require all career staff to meet the minimum of First Responder training for responding to medical emergencies.  This unique status was achieved through the cooperative efforts of Fire District No. 2 and Monroe Municipal Ambulance Service.

The curriculum for the program is based on the 40 hour National First Responder program and teaches staff to address immediate life threats and to perform a simple and rapid assessment to aid the responding Emergency Medical Services' (EMS) units.  In addition to the basic first aid equipment and oxygen, the Engine and Tower carry Automated External Defibrillators (AED's).  These units can treat the lethal cardiac rhythm called ventricular fibrillation.
